Since Meyers left SNL, all the sketches were quite dull, and even though Louise C.K.'s monologue had a great start the following sketches couldn't S'catch up (see what i just did there?!)(a reference to Forte's gag XD). Anyway, thankfully Kendrick's use of Disney reference last night was just the right amount SNL needed, and finally all the new cast got the chance to show off their jokes. Was starting to wonder if Wheelan was being hired just as a freakishly-tall-handsome-prop. Then I noticed he finally appeared less awkward on camera during his appearance on Weekend Update. Good for him. Zamata on the other hand had an awesome start, and on the following shows she proves herself to be a very smart late-addition to the cast. Maybe this is just me, because I still can’t tell the difference between Mooney and Milhiser, well, only when they hide Mooney’s curls. Actually the Big Joe skit last night made them look like fraternal twins! Still adorable though. The musical guest were simply awesome showing off his ability to squeeze in that many young dancers and string orchestra on a small stage. But, if only the camera zoomed in to Pharrell's face as he stare in the lens after both of the casting assistants wore his trademark hat, that would have boost up the sketch more. Overall, last night's show was a relief with the Weekend Update finally found it's landing on comedy ground since Jost stepped in. By the way, love the memory championship banter between Jost and Strong.
This new generation of SNL (excluding my favorite old timer Kenan) might had a rough start after all the awesome seniors left the cast, but after last night there might be some hope after all. Plus, who can hate Bryant, Killam, McKinnon or Pharoah? Come on.
Love and Sincerely,
An SNL fan.
*P/s: when last night’s show started I was wondering if Moynihan and Pedrad might be leaving because I’m seeing less and less of them in any of the sketches, especially after Jost mentioned the PSA about drinking. I was kinda dissapointed when Wheelan appeared instead of everybody’s favorite Drunk Uncle. As it turned out, Drunk Uncle couldn’t make it because George R.R. Martin took his slot. *Pheww!!* But what does that say aboutPedrad?
